Soft ware is never protected - any time data is downloaded it is at risk of being hacked and or corrupted - doesn't matter if it is on the INTERNET or off the grid - download any software and it is at risk - the code has to be analyzed completely before it is downloaded to decide if it is secure or not. And only 40-80 would be discovered.
